Ok, everyone who crochets gets caught in a time crunch now and then. It happens to all of us. You want to surprise someone with a gift, there is a birthday or holiday coming up, a charity is requesting you make something for a fundraiser, and you just do not have the time to make that intricate afghan done in fine yarn on a small hook. Don't give up and run to your nearest store to purchase something ready-made, consider this new kit from Mary Maxim, the Simple Stripes Throw.
Using two easy-to-crochet but very different-looking patterns, the throw combines these two patterns and three colors of Titan to build rows of color. Our model is made using the soft neutral Cottonwood for the main color and Teal Heather and Mauve for the two contrasting colors, the more solid stripes. The possibilities are endless. You can use shades of blue and a neutral, for the relaxing look of sky and water, taupe and greys for a sophisticated combination that goes with any decor, or chooses any three favorites. If you're looking for a gift for a man in your life, they will appreciate the solid look without lacy frills in this pattern.
The contrast color stripes are worked in linen stitch, which works up very quickly. After the initial row of chain 1, skip next stitch, single crochet in next stitch, you are then working into the chain 1 spaces it's a quick and easy way to make the contrast color stripes. The look of the stitch is a woven effect, much more interesting than plain single crochet. The bands of the main color are worked with crossed double crochet stitches, to add some openwork and interest to the design.
The generous 44 x 50 size is just right snuggling. The larger hook used in the pattern means the finished fabric will drape easily, not be stiff, but still nice and warm in our Titan 100% acrylic. You or whoever receives your gift will appreciate the machine wash and dry instructions for our Titan yarn.
