And if we're talking about hooks, the most common hook sizes for crocheting are US sizes 7 to I/9, or 4.5-5.5 mm. As for gauge, you'll probably get 5.25–6 stitches per inch for knitting and 3–4.25 stitches per inch for crocheting.
