I had a great experience with Mary Maxim customer service. One of the yarns in my recent order was splitting quite a bit while I was working with it. I honestly thought it might just be one of those chances you take with yarn, but I called to ask about it.
The customer service representative was so nice and told me the yarn should not be separating like that. They sent me a replacement without making the process difficult at all. I was really pleased with how helpful, friendly, and easy they were to work with. Great customer service makes such a difference, and I really appreciated it!
First time ordering a surprise color and I was pleasantly surprised with the color. I made myself a fun sun hat for the beach. It’s floppy so my next one will use some wire for the edge but I still think it’s cute
Good products at a good price
I’m still pretty new to using cotton yarn, and I really love the speckled colors in Premier Cotton. The little pops of color are so cute in finished projects and make even simple patterns look extra fun. It’s easy to work with, has nice stitch definition, and works great for the hats, dishcloths, and other cotton projects I’ve been making. I’ll definitely keep buying the speckles!

It has nice stitch definition, holds its shape well, and is still soft and easy to work with. I’ve even had to pull out and redo a few sections, and the yarn has held up great. Definitely a cotton yarn I’ll keep using!

I love the way the yarn feels and the pattern is easy to read. I am already using a hook 2 sizes larger and I think the throw will turn out smaller than it should. Guess I just crochet too tightly.

This turned out much smaller than expected and gauge was spot on. Love the pattern though.
Started the pattern with the recommended H hook and the pattern was working to short. The size is supposed to be 48x60". I had to upside to a J and the pattern still works about 10" to short and there is not enough yarn to do another repeat. It is very nice when finished but it is short.

The design of this Afghan is lovely. The stitches are simple. But the written pattern is incorrect. The stitch count is incorrect. Unless you have been crocheting for years and can adjust the pattern as you go, you won’t enjoy this kit. I got very frustrated not only with the pattern but the yarn. The yarn is nice and soft. But as with these types of yarns, it splits while you’re working with it. Ughhh!!! I have been crocheting for 40 years and I wouldn’t buy this kit again. I might attempt it with another yarn such as Red Heart classic now that I have made adjustments to the pattern. But I wouldn’t recommend this to a beginner.
All I can say is AARRRGG!!! Was eager to get this kit. Such a pretty pattern. Its gonna be lovely. BUT, I hate the yarn that came in the kit. It splits. I work fast and I continually have to stop and re-hook my stitches because the yarn splits. I hate that. I’ll use the pattern again and buy a better yarn like Red Heart Classic or Super Saver. I fear the throw will snag easily because of the type of yarn it’s made of. It’s super soft and that’s not a bad thing. Just the wrong king of yarn. Having used it with this kit, I would never purchase the yarn for a project. It’s the Mary Maxim Starlette.
I order this kit, and made the afghan according to instructions. I downsized the hook to a G for the gauge. I still ran out of yarn for the last round on the border. So I chose a different stitch for the last round and it turned out fine. However, in the instructions, if in fact Row 1 IS the right side, and all even rows are the wrong side, then this photograph is showing the "wrong side", which looks fine. The "right" side does look different. That being said, after I finished the body at row 102, I fastened off, turned to the wrong side, and added the border to look like the photo.

this pattern is very nice, easy to follow. I sized down on the hook size (used a G) for the gauge. However, I did not have enough of the final color to make the last complete round of the edging. So I adjusted and used a different stitch. Also, according to the pattern, if row #1 IS the right side and all even # rows are on the wrong side, then this photo shows the wrong side. After I made the last row of the body, I had to turn it to the wrong side to add the edging and make it look like this photo. However, both sides do look nice.

I absolutely love this afghan kit. First time with Starlette yarn. Wow....I just wish it came in larger skeins like Red Heart.
Anyway, its a fun project, and I got so many compliments on the first one I made, I decided to purchase a second kit to make another (to keep to give as a gift.)
*It would be nice to have the ability to select other color variations, but the blues/cream does coordinate with many decors.
