Description

A unique motif throw, inspired by Jane Crowfoot's Mystical Lanterns Design.
Kit includes Mary Maxim Prism and Best Value yarns.

The most amazing things happen when a crafter mixes two of our Mary Maxim premium yarns in one beautiful design such as the Tear Drop Throw. Mary Maxim Prism and Mary Maxim Best Value yarns work together in the Tear Drop Throw to create a cascade of color. Motifs, when carefully placed together, will give the appearance that they have been spun off one continuous ball of Mary Maxim Prism yarn.

This highly photo-intensive pattern gives great care for the detail-oriented crafter to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Mary Maxim Prism yarn has rich color runs that will highlight any afghan or throw you are working.

The Tear Drop Throw is unique in that no two motifs are ever the same and in turn, will create a unique masterpiece any time this pattern is recreated. Using Mary Maxim Best Value yarn in Cottonwood as the model is shown, gives a soft balance to the rich colors of the Prism yarn used in Autumn Mist.

The Tear Drop Throw is a challenge in the aspect that it will ask the crafter to pay close attention to gauge, stitch count, and placement of motifs. However, it will pique the curiosity by varying stitches and continuing to engage with the brilliance of colors in Mary Maxim Prism yarn.

Most crocheters will not have to learn anything new and will breeze through the motifs enjoying the smooth Mary Maxim Best Value. After the motifs have been completed, the joining will create beautiful ribbons of Mary Maxim Prism winding around the motifs, and Mary Maxim Best Value will define those motifs and border the entire throw in a frame of cottonwood for this model.

The Tear Drop Throw can be placed as a showpiece with that splash of color in a living room or the welcoming bedspread for a spare room with guests coming to stay awhile.

To complete the Tear Drop Throw Kit you will need a size G-6 (4.00 mm) hook.  Check the box at the hook below to add an extra hook to your order.  When finished the Tear Drop Throw measures approximately 43 inches by 61 inches.

Stitch Requirements: Chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, repeat, slip, yarn over hook.

Project turned out well overall.

Color: Autumn Mist/Cottonwood. The instructions, particularly towards the end for the border, is very confusing, and it took me a while to figure it out. The yarn color is darker than anticipated and is prone to snagging. The finished size is smaller than a typical afghan. However, the project turned out well overall.

I have not started the kit yet,. I brought the Persian Tiles kit too.
Reading the pattern and seeing the kit, this is going to be enjoyable, I liked the fact you could customize your kit. I choose pastel rainbow with a green background, I was going for a shabby/boho style. The yarn is sooo nice!

Love the colours of the Prism Autumn Mist, the texture/thickness of this yarn varies which makes it more challenging to work with. Love the pattern. Still a work in progress.

"Tropics" is not a tropical colorway!

Colors not as shown--the "Tropics" colorway of the Prism yarn is more like an English garden. The yarn is lovely, but olive, gray-green, and dusty rose aren't the colors I expected! (Yes, they are marked as "Tropics", so I didn't accidentally get the wrong kit.) Will end up changing out the Cottonwood for a color that complements the grayish tones better. Pattern is easy to understand.

Fine As Hair Yarn

I bought the Tear Drop Throw and after you figure out the motifs, you'll find out what I did. The Prism Yarn that comes with the kit is like dealing with very fine hair. It sheds and comes off on your clothes. If you don't use a cover over your clothes, when you cook, it gets into the dishes and you find them when you're eating. I DID!! I will never use that yarn again.

Hi Jamie, we're sorry to hear about your experience with the Prism Yarn shedding. If you need any further assistance please let us know.

The Tear Drop Throw is

The Tear Drop Throw is beautiful, but definitely not for the inexperienced! That said, the pattern was easy to follow but you have to read it carefully. I did have a bit of trouble with the border. I ended up improvising and it came out just fine. The prism yarn is gorgeous, although it does have a tendency to split. The end result is well worth the minor problems.

Lovely Colours, Difficult Pattern.

The colours are lovely and the yarn is soft. The pattern was tricky to understand, especially the border, but I managed to approximate it when I couldn't find any corrections or video online to help me.

The instructions were slightly confusing

The instructions were slightly confusing & I didn't much care for the Prism yarn. I love the colors, the Mary Maxim yarn was wonderful to work with. The kit came with more than enough yarn to complete the project. Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out when I finished it.

Finished! Addendum to earlier review

I finished this afghan, making lots of changes to the pattern. For one, I did not block the motifs. I don’t think I have ever blocked anything, way too much effort for me. I changed the joining of the motifs, to exclude using the dreaded “third loop” , which I have never had any success with. But if you can’t figure it out, or you don’t like the pattern, you can improvise. I did the border different too, in a few ways. I put a photo on my FB page Maryanne Roesler. Came out very nice, lots of compliments, wasn’t wild about the texture and stringiness of the yarn, but when you buy a kit, you can’t pick and chose. Have fun with it, don’t give up!

Pretty but annoying

I am in the middle of crocheting this, but wanted to leave a few of my modifications in case it would help others. They start with a “magic circle”. I found that if I just chained 10, joined, and worked in that circle, at the end when I weaved in the end, I could sew the end around the circle and tighten it just fine, so I never used their circle. The variegated yarn is like mohair, and a bit stringy. Keeps splitting. Next I looked at the directions for joining the motifs. NOT. Too confusing and I have NEVER found using the third loop easy or enjoyable. Looks nice when done, but too annoying for me. I just matched up two motifs middle to point and single crocheted them through both loops for 18 stitches for each motif, picking up the next motif. This worked out ok so far, but the row of stitches slant. So I alternated direction so that both rows slanted inward, next outward, and so on. Looks fine. Still have to figure out the border! Happy crocheting!

Missing/Incomplete Instructions

The joining instructions are not printed on the pattern. There's nowhere I can upload a photo of the pattern instructions I was sent with my kit. The written instructions stop after Rnd 4. I called & hopefully they send me the complete pattern if not I want my money back. I can't complete this blanket.
