Wolf Cardigan Knit Kit | Project Hail Mary Fox Sweater

I’m having fun knitting this beautiful sweater for my grandson. It has great graphs and clear instructions to follow. I needed help from customer service and got excellent responses from Courtney. Highly recommend Mary maxim!

The pattern is fine, not supper accurate to the movie but easy enough to alter although other yarn was needed (white for the tail). It’s the only reason for two stars since it was easy enough to follow.

SUPER disappointed in the yarn.
I ordered the tan background (no longer available) and they sent me a darker taupe yarn that does NOT match the original photos at all. On top of that, I was also given three different brands and type of yarn;
The taupe was a size 6 from Bernat, the Russet and gray were a size 5 from Titan, the black was a size 5 from Premier, and the red was entirely unlabeled but ended up to be a size 6 when I checked its weight.

The issue with the size 6’s is that this pattern calls for a size 5, so I had to switch around my needles and attempt to do a swatch (which there isn’t enough yarn to do so). It wasn’t great.

I will give a slight benefit of the doubt as I’m sure this is a highly requested item and the demand to fill orders was strained. But still, not really great :(. I would have preferred it to be delayed rather than ending up with mismatched yarn.

I watch YouTube to learn to knit and purl.
Saw this kit on YouTube - got it cheaper then hunting pattern and yarn.
My one the back panel. I learned something that helped me. The ribbing - I cast on. Then when knit 2 put a color marker ( red) then purl 2 put a different color marker (gold). Then when I flip over to do my purl the knit I don't get mad and lose my mind
I made it to the next step. The graph.
I thought on this. I made a column chart so I don't have to count or remember left to right purl or knit

Write it out. I do write a code for colors of yarn to write less. Like Gray is G looks like 2 G means 2 gray stitches.
Now I can make my knitting fast. I have lots of boys and men to make for in my family.
So now I use my computer to list these column sheets.
I spend a day making my list + reading pattern see if I have something pop up I would have to undo to add too. Or learn to do on YouTube.
Then I can make it again with out counting a chart.
I love this pattern. My son, Grandson, and now 6 more family men want this sweater.

It’s my first time following a pattern to knit something, and of course I am doing this because of PHM! But the pattern is pretty easy to follow and I’m making good progress- two sleeves done! Amaze amaze amaze! I bought the kit, and it comes with everything needed except for needles, which I appreciated so I could find a style of needle that work for me. I will probably be a lifelong Mary Maxim pattern purchaser now! If you’re on the fence and have beginner to intermediate knitting skills, try it. I was able to figure it out!

The pattern needs to have numbered rows. The grid lines are hard to see so you have to look very, very carefully at points to count the number of stitches. For an already slow knitter, this causes me to be even slower. I’m not a fan of the rust yarn. It splits constantly and the color just seems off. The site didn’t mention a zipper isn’t included. Hoping someone creates a video tutorial. I am determined to finish this one.

Great pattern, straightforward instructions.I ordered the small-medium, knit a medium and it is ridiculously oversized! Easily and XL or XXL. Yarn quality not the best.
However, given the price, it’s worth purchasing and you can make another sweater adjusting the yarn and needle size.

I ordered the cottonwood color but received a substitution that isn’t even close. I knew that the cottonwood was back ordered and was willing to wait. I was not even asked or told. It was my first order and I used my welcome discount code. When I called about this I was told oh well return it and you are out of luck. This was my first and last purchase from them.

Be aware when buying this kit you will not be given a digital pattern. This needs to be mentioned when you are purchasing the kit as most people will not have the ability to scan the pattern so they can actually use it and make notations.

Ran out of main color and had to order more. Just needed a little more to finish the collar and sew up the sweater.

Excellent wool, great turn around.
Postage extortionate to UK so had it sent to family in USA who posted it to me for half the price you wanted to charge me.

As described. Can’t wait to get started. I do wish this version of the pattern had an option for pattern only.

I can not download the pattern after purchasing. It says order not found.

The kit comes complete, for sure. I do wish the instructions were a little more descriptive when it came to using two strands of yarn.

Pattern was fine but I was sent the wrong color of yarn for the foxes and reaching out to customer service was unfruitful. They ignored my emails multiple times. I'd be more excited to make it if I had the right color.

I cannot wait to start this project. So fun and exciting! I love that Mary Maxim is still in business...such good memories from when I was a brand new knitter, who was taught by my great grandma.

Great customer service! I bought the newer Fox Cardigan Kit. When I received the kit one of the skeins of yarn was not the same brand as all others in the kit. I contacted Mary Maxim customer service and alerted them to the problem. They responded quickly and replaced the incorrect skein with one of the matching brand and color free of charge!

This is a great pattern and is super easy to follow as an intermediate knitter! Customer service was also great as I had to work with them exchaning my order for a different size!

Long wait for back order, like the pattern and the yarn. Titan yarn does not knit to gauge with suggested needle sizes. Clear zip bag is great.

Nice material included. Directions are a bit confusing and I would say your listing this project as for Intermediate knitter's may be a bit off the mark. I would consider this closer to an advanced level knitter due to the more complex directions. I'll see how I do as I need to practice with working in a design in my knitting, something I've never done before. But excited to see if I can actually put this sweater together.

I waited for this kit to be back in stock for a few months and immediately ordered it when it was. I’m making as a gift for someone and wanted to be sure I am using the exact weight yarn to get guage. I receivedthe cream Titan yarn, but the colored yarns for the paw prints and fox are all Lion Brand Hometown, very shiny and slippery. When I reached out to MM, they basically said they subbed the yarn and if I want a replacement I have to return the entire kit. I had already cast on and knit the back hem. Also , I paid the expediting fee of $4 to get it faster and it still took a few weeks. I am not about to pay to ship this kit back even if i hadnt cast on. I know they are a beloved company but I won’t order again or recommend them to my knitting friends.

I received the kit and was sent Bernat Softee Chunky and Lion Brand Hometown. Both yarn textures aren’t great, especially for a cardigan, and the color for the fox was super off. Had to get replacement yarn for that. Pattern is great, just wish you didn't have to buy the yarn with it.
