This corner to corner blanket is great for those cold winter days.
Is there anything cozier than a warm, classic Buffalo Plaid for snuggling? The Black, Red and darker Cardinal Red squares bring back memories of being a child and warming up under a comforting blanket after skating or playing in the snow. These colors are a natural for anyone who loves to decorate with a country or cabin look. When the weather changes, just bringing out a blanket like this can change your décor to the look of a cabin in the north woods.
Of course, this isn’t just a plain plaid design. A majestic stag, silhouetted in Natural, dramatically sets this blanket apart.
The blanket is worked in the popular corner to corner method. Working from a graph, the first row at a bottom corner consists of one block (a chain space and 3 double crochet).
As you work the second row, with two blocks, the blanket gets both longer and wider. Additional blocks are added as more rows are worked, working from the included full color graph for color placement. The clear instructions explain changing colors and using bobbins, so no color changes show on the front of the blanket.
When the 45” width is reached, you will increase only on one side of each row, to continue adding length to the blanket. At the top of the graph, the full width and length are completed. Now the work goes faster, as you decrease on each row to complete the other top corner. It’s so much fun to see the outline of a noble stag head be created as you work.
The blanket is made in our Mary Maxim Starlette, our best selling worsted weight yarn. For years knitters and crocheters have relied on Starlette for long lasting, easy care items that are snuggly soft and stay soft wash after wash. If someone you love is lucky enough to receive this as a gift, you know it will be treasured for years.

I found the Mary Maxim Anti-Pill Worsted yarn to be very soft and easy to work with. I got this in colors Copper, Taupe, and Cream (I think it was Cream, I used all of that one).
I wanted to make the MJ’s Off The Hook Timeless Tones cardigan, but had to wait for the yarn to get to me. So in the meantime, I made a “practice one” with the Mary Maxim Anti-Pill yarn.
Everyone who sees it is amazed how nice it turned out. Those 3 colors look fabulous together.
I just wish there were more colors available.

Beautiful stag afghan! I made this for my son and his finance!!! It turned out Beautiful! I had never done corner to corner before! Worth the effort!!!
I love the way this turned out! I had to make myself a pattern, as I struggle to read the smaller graph/grid design while working. But I'm so happy - the finished blanket has a nice weight and the colors look fantastic. Being C2C, it came together quite quickly as well.
Making the pattern myself from the grid adds time, I do like when kits include both. But I am happy with the final result!

This is the fist kit I have gotten that I have been disappointed in. It came with Starlette yarn, but black was substituted with Bernat Super Value yarn. The yarn black is much thinner than the Starlette yarn. It only comes a graph and not with the written out pattern. The graph is hard to follow when you start the stag. I keep losing my place. This is Christmas present for my husband. I still plan on finishing it.

The Pattern grid was a bit small and the colours on the picture were not accurate, BUT!!!!! What a wonderful afghan. Hence the 5 star rating. Everyone who sees it LOVES it. After figuring out the Instructions, it was fairly easy to do. I'm now a fan of corner to corner crochet. I also want to mention the amazing customer support that I received from Mary Maxim!!!

While this is a pretty project, there is a problem with the instructions. It states: “Even numbered rows will be worked from right side edge down to bottom edge”. This is either incorrect or confusing. It makes no sense. It goes on to say, “Odd numbered rows will be worked from bottom edge up to right side edge”. This too is incorrect or confusing! The other problem is of course the chart. The chart is not numbered.
The picture of this project is not at all like the actual pattern. Colours and pattern are different.

I have made 3 of these blankets so far. I have learned that if I leave the afghan on a table and move my chair from side to side, it is way easier to keep the bobbins organized. I love this pattern! Yes, it is challenging, but so worth the end product!
