PHM Fox Sweater

My sweater is the PHM version. The pattern is well-written and easy to follow.

One mistake in the pattern is that the paws on the bottom of the left front panel are going the wrong direction -- they're all supposed to wrap in one direction around the cardigan but the paws on this panel go the opposite way. I just followed the chart for the paws from the other front panel.

Overall, this was an awesome pattern and a lot of fun to make! I'm a beginner knitter but I was still able to figure it all out.

The Project Hail Mary Pattern!

Was so stoked to learn that this was the real pattern adapted for Project Hail Mary's iconic fox cardigan! This was my second time ever trying knit colourwork, first time on a garment. Sized up one needle size as I am a 46-48" bust but really I could have kept the suggested gauge. Grid was easy to edit using stills from the movie to get the fox look, and I bought chunky acrylic yarn as I could not afford the kit. A really fun knit with some great new skills to learn - I loved the pocket construction!

Fun challenging project

Glad this vintage pattern was available although older patterns like this one are sparse on written instructions, the charts explain it all. Readily found moviemotif modifications and I'm on my way!

I’m really enjoying this knitting pattern

I’m really enjoying this knitting pattern. I do not have any experience with fair isle knitting, and it is good to learn. When I downloaded the pattern, the page is were out of sequence, but it was an easy fix. I’m knitting it all at once, instead of in pieces and upsizing it as I’m larger than the pattern measurements. Really enjoying the experience.

The instructions are very easy to follow, and even as a beginner knitter who does not speak english as a first language, I managed to understand everything and my cardigan turned out incredible 🤩

For crafty Project Hail Mary fans!

The charts for the color work are well done, and the pattern description is quite clear. And it is easy to change the colors to make it more like a sweater in the movie.

Have to admit I was influenced to get this after the PHM movie - the design is beautiful and I’m excited to work on it!

Some problems

I bought this pattern knowing I would have to change the color work some in order to make it the Project Hail Mary cardigan. That wasn’t too hard and I thought the instructions were easy enough to follow, but when I started actually knitting I quickly ran into several, kind of infuriating, problems. To start with, the pattern makes a point to say that any casting off for the shaping of the arms and neckline must be done at the beginning of a row (which makes sense) but then the pattern itself is COMPLETELY off by at least one row on EVERY panel and sleeve. You will have to fudge an extra row every single time in order to get the row to start on the correct side for casting off. I counted the rows of the grid a dozen times and then had others double check, so I really don’t think I’m just miscounting every time. Also the sizing for this cardigan isn’t accurate either and you’ll want to make a bigger size regardless of what the pattern claims the chest measurements are. I had to completely restart my cardigan more than once. It’s not unusable but it’s REALLY annoying considering it’s a paid pattern and I was really starting to feel like I was losing my mind working on this, so just keep that in mind and good luck, knitters!

Very comprehensive

This is the first full cardigan I have ever knitted, and this pattern made it a lot less daunting. It felt a lot less like I was throwing myself in the deep end (even through I definitely was) and more like I had a solid plan. Overall, it has been very helpful.

The pattern is great however, please make sure you review the order of the pageS, page 3 and page 2 are swiped and it took me a bit to realize it

I came looking for the original version as listed in the title and what I got was the redesigned

I came looking for the original version as listed in the title and what I got was the redesigned (project Hail Mary) version. I am slightly disappointed, but the pattern looks good and very easy to understand. Looking forward to knitting this!

Very happy with the pattern. Instructions are very clear and the chart is well presented. Need to do a bit of editing of the chart to turn the wolf into a fox but looking forward to knitting it. 😁
