Originally crafted with Mary Maxim Starlette, which had 220 yds per skein, choose from our stylish selection of worsted yarns including Mary Maxim Starlette. Keep in mind that colors and yardage have changed. Materials List for both: MC Green (1 ball), Red (2), White(1), Black (35 yds), Pink (35 yds). Also needed is a pair of U.S. 8 (5 mm) knitting needles. Finished size approx. 22". Intermediate knit.

I ordered many skeins of this bulky yarn both from Mary Maxim and Premier. Both have comparable prices although Mary Maxim has a few more colors. Whether this yarn is being discontinued or not, it's a top-notch yarn. A nice thick bulky yarn, thicker than the Puzzle solid yarns, but of the same twist, if that makes sense. I've made 2 blankets with this yarn, no complaints in its quality. It's a dream to use, easy to frog, no twisting or splitting, just a pleasure to work with. Now the ends to fray a bit due to the twist. . . But leaving a long tail, thoural weaving in the ends, a drop of fabric glue helps. Of course I'll be buying more!

My mother knit Mrs Claus about 25 years ago and the pattern was only partially legible, due to the age of it,so I ordered a new pattern. She now has dementia so is unable to knit anymore. We have added to our family so I knit the Santa stockings for my sons-in-law.
Forty seven years ago my Mother made the three of us the Santa stocking and since for her grandchildren. My daughter bought me the pattern recently as her stocking was taken by her ex and would like to have her children and herself have one. It's been years since I knitted. It would have helped to have added instructions on carrying yarn behind the motif. I guess most reactions would be "Google it".
I purchased this pattern as well as the snowman and candy cane patterns. They are easy to follow and allowed me to match stockings that were made following the same pattern from 25+ years ago! A suggestion for Mary Maxim: bring back your bright red yarn. The cardinal red is beautiful but doesn't match vintage stockings made with the bright red yarn. :grinning:
59 years ago I made the Santa stocking for my new baby. No longer hanging stockings in my house, last year I gave it to him, and his wife asked for a companion stocking. I ordered the pattern from MM and made Mrs. Claus.

I bought this pattern because my original pattern is worn out and missing parts. I have been making stocking for 5 generations in my family and also making stockings for friends. I have no idea how many I have made over the years. I started this in 1976 and made stockings for all the new babies and spouses in my family. Even though I make the new patterns I still use my original patterns for the number of stitches cast on and fir the body, foot and tie. I need them the same size as my original stockings. I love all the patterns and watch for the 99 cent sales.

This is a clearly written pattern with a big chart showing how to knit those sweet faces. I purchased the pattern after a friend asked me to knit one for her grandchild.
