October Blog Exclusive Preview - Free Pattern

October Blog Exclusive Preview - Free Pattern

Gwen Bautista |

We are putting the finishing touches on our October Blog Exclusive.  Candy Corn was our inspiration for this triangle cowl.  We hope you've enjoyed our cowl designs recently, we are working on other items for November. The Sweet Treat Cowl is an Intermediate crochet pattern that features a variety of stitches and some beautiful puff textures. default photo

Maximum Value Yarn

We crocheted The Sweet Treat Cowl using Maximum Value Yarn.  It's available in 40 colors and is the perfect value yarn for this project.  Maximum Value yarn boasts impressive yardage at about 474 yards per ball and only costs $3.99 US and $4.99 CA.  For this pattern, you will need approximately 300 yards of each color. However, because we are working double stranded, we suggest purchasing 2 balls of each color knowing you can make 2 cowls or have yarn left over for another project.  If you purchase only one ball of each color, we recommend taking the time to wind the yarn into 2 equal balls or cakes to make the yarn easier to work with.   To achieve our Candy Corn look, we used 2 balls of White, 2 balls of Yellow and 2 balls of Pumpkin. Shopping List REVISED!

We added a US L (8.00 mm) hook to our shopping list.  You may have to go a hook size up or down to achieve the correct gauge, but we found using the smaller hook gives better results for the modified puff stitch.
