Prism yarn is not forgiving

This is a beautiful project. The pattern is extremely well written and easy to follow even for the novice crocheter. I love Mary Maxim yarn, it was so easy to work with. The Mary Maxim Prism yarn needs a little TLC when using, it will tolerate the occassional 'frog' however, its easy to fuzz up during the process. Later today I will know how this project reacts to the laundry process.

Fun project

This was a fun project. Very detailed and clear instructions. Made a beautiful afghan. Yarn was a little "splitty" but loved the color.

Love the pattern!

I had to give 5 stars because I absolutely love this pattern. The yarn however is not the best choice for the pattern. Don’t get me wrong I like the yarn but it splits terribly. Next time I will get better yarn I will just have to figure out what that is.

Great idea bad yarn

Beautiful pattern and fun. The yarn leaves a lot to be desired! I finished this in a month and by the time I got it done the blanket looks like it’s years old. The yarn is already fuzzing. The Mary maximum best value yarn is very cheep not a yarn I will ever use again.

Hi Lori! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your experience with the yarn, but we appreciate your input. If you need any further assistance please contact customer service. We are here to help!

Beautiful pattern and blanket

I havent quite finished the blanket yet but what a beautiful outcome so far. I found with my tension I had to go down one hook size. Thats just my preference.

I loved this pattern. It

I loved this pattern. It turned out really nice. Lots of compliments on it. But I didn’t enjoy the yarn that came with the kit. It was difficult to work with. I was constantly splitting stitches and having to back up. But I will definitely be making this pattern again with different yarn. Possibly red heart super saver and red heart ombré.

This is such a gorgeous

This is such a gorgeous pattern! I'm excited with every change in the yarn and each part of the pattern. Very well written and easy to understand, paired with beautiful yarn! I feel like this will be a legacy piece in my family and household, it's really beautiful and a conversation piece. Highly recommend.

Delighted!

I live in Scotland, in a village 10 minutes away from where the designer lives, but chose to make my purchase from Mary Maxim as I've seen the results of so many makes in Prism and love them. The kit comes in a strong clear storage bag, which is similar in size to the ones I use to protect my stash from cat hair, so it's easily stored with the others. The colours and textures of the yarns are gorgeous. The pattern is well written and easy to follow, even for a visual learner, like me. This is a wee Christmas gift to myself, but I've got a feeling that once it's completed, it'll find itself in my son's room! I can't wait to get started. We need a Mary Maxim outlet on this side of the pond.

Beautiful Afghan

The design is beautiful. It’s an advanced pattern with the color changes but well worth the time.

Great pattern, horrible yarn

The pattern is fantastic. The yarns are terrible. The Prism yarn is nowhere near a #4 yarn - it's barely a #2 with how thin some areas get, so mixing it with the Best Value yarn is a poor choice and it shows because of how stretched out and floppy the stitches are getting using a 5mm hook. Secondly, after doing just 1 inch of the pattern, both yarns are fuzzing like crazy. The Best Value is terrible and looks ratty already. This blanket will look 5+ years old by the time I'm done just from the friction of moving it across my lap while I crochet. And the Prism is not only fuzzing, it's impossible to rip back because of how it sticks and matts to itself. Very disappointed and I'm abandoning this project until I can buy better yarn somewhere else. So I've spent a lot of money to just get a pattern.

Hello Karen, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the yarn. I have a few tips on how to pull out stitches with roving yarn. Usually, when we need to rip out stitches, we tend to start yanking on the yarn. However, it's better to pull the yarn straight down from the base of the stitch. This will help reduce tension on the yarn, making it easier to slide. If you feel any resistance, avoid pulling harder and instead try to gently loosen the strand. If you are still unhappy with the kit, please contact customer service at info@marymaxim.com for a resolution.

Loved doing the Sholach afghan.

Loved doing the Sholach afghan. Easy to understand pattern. The colors were beautiful. Everyone who has seen the finished product are amazed by how it looks. Mosaic crochet is now my favorite style of crocheting.

Love the pattern, love the

Love the pattern, love the colors. Love working the mosaic stitch.
My only complaint is in the quality of the Prism yarn. There were many knots in the balls where the yarn was broken off and the change in color was not gradual. I realize it is multicolored and you might say it shouldn't matter; however, I like the continuity of the change in color and this didn't allow this continuity.

It will be beautiful but will take a long time.

Did a half dozen rows to see if I could follow directions and how mosaic crochet worked. Able to follow directions and it's really cool how the design works; it's quite beautiful.
However, it's going to take quite a while to complete. Wish the optional border techniques were included in directions.
