Wolf Cardigan Knit Kit | Project Hail Mary Fox Sweater

It’s my first time following a pattern to knit something, and of course I am doing this because of PHM! But the pattern is pretty easy to follow and I’m making good progress- two sleeves done! Amaze amaze amaze! I bought the kit, and it comes with everything needed except for needles, which I appreciated so I could find a style of needle that work for me. I will probably be a lifelong Mary Maxim pattern purchaser now! If you’re on the fence and have beginner to intermediate knitting skills, try it. I was able to figure it out!

The pattern needs to have numbered rows. The grid lines are hard to see so you have to look very, very carefully at points to count the number of stitches. For an already slow knitter, this causes me to be even slower. I’m not a fan of the rust yarn. It splits constantly and the color just seems off. The site didn’t mention a zipper isn’t included. Hoping someone creates a video tutorial. I am determined to finish this one.

Great pattern, straightforward instructions.I ordered the small-medium, knit a medium and it is ridiculously oversized! Easily and XL or XXL. Yarn quality not the best.
However, given the price, it’s worth purchasing and you can make another sweater adjusting the yarn and needle size.

I ordered the cottonwood color but received a substitution that isn’t even close. I knew that the cottonwood was back ordered and was willing to wait. I was not even asked or told. It was my first order and I used my welcome discount code. When I called about this I was told oh well return it and you are out of luck. This was my first and last purchase from them.

Wish the yarn would have been wool instead of synthetic.

Amazingly well put together. The pattern is easy to follow for someone who isn't as experienced as I am. The yarn feels really high quality and I am having a wonderful time knitting it!

I want to give a huge shout out to Mary Maxim's customer service. One of the dogs I house sit decided to eat my pattern, and they were understanding and kind and got a new pattern sent out to me, no problem at all. I emailed them twice and both times they have been very kind and quick to respond.

I will be using Mary Maxim again!

Did not get enough yarn to do a swatch, and one of the main color balls had a lot of knots and spots where the yarn was coming apart

The pattern is really nice, the yarn was not what I expected , it was Lion Brand hometown upper bulky #6 not the required one in the pattern which is a size #5. When I originally bought the kit, the listing said titan yarn so I was surprised to get this substitute of the super bulky yarn, which looks very shinny. I doubt my son will wear a sweater made out of this shinny yarn, I would have preferred to wait another month to get the right weight yarn. For those considering this package, ask what yarn you will get.

Not happy with the yarn selection. Acrylic yarn has it's uses. I have used it before for projects. I have never used yarn that feels this plasticy before. Lion's brand is not a yarn that I would have selected if I had a choice. It is also strange that the kit online doesn't say what yarn comes with the kit. If I had know it was Lion's Brand I would not have purchased it.

Pattern is good and easy to follow.

I've never completed a knitting project before, but when I saw I could make this sweater, I know I had to try. Learning how to read the instructions and figure out the different types of stitches has been challenging, but fun. The only downside is that the yarn in the kit is acrylic, so it is hard to work with, and frays very easily. I'm about half way through this project, and I'm looking forward to the finished sweater 🦊🧡

Admittedly, I'm much more used to reading crochet patterns, but this one is confusing. The grid, while the most clear and helpful thing about the pattern, isn't numbered, leaving you to manually squint and count rows. I' not even done yet and I've had to frog and rework several rows because of the nature of the grid.

Another gripe is that this claims to be movie accurate, but the gray yarn is far too light and is difficult to see. It should be more of a charcoal. But hey, at least I got the pattern, which is the only thing I really wanted out of this kit. I'm using the forced-yarn-purchase as my test run, and I feel like my second attempt will go more smoothly.

The pattern itself has been a really interesting challenge, as my first colorwork piece. It's just the right amount of challenge without being overwhelming. The kit is great, it had just enough yarn for everything, and some leftover for my first few mistakes! It didn't come with any closure (buttons/zipper), but I'm actually glad for that, as I'm quite picky with that sort of thing and am happy to find my own.
Overall, I'm very glad to have purchased and knitted the whole thing! Definitely recommend, and I was thrilled to be able to support a MI brand.

Deeply disappointed in the kit. I love the pattern, most of the yarn was lovely but the brown yarn that was substituted into the kit was completely different feel and structure. It started to show wear even before I finished the project.

Woild like to be anle to get larger size beyond 50.5 or order extra yarn for length.

I was very excited about this kit but saddened when I received it with super bulky yarn ( Lion brand hometown) rather than the bulky needed to make the required tension. I’ve been unable to knit to the required gauge so will either resize it or make something else out of the yarn .

The pattern is easy to follow, but the quality of the yarn left a lot to be desired.

Still in the process of making this. The stitches are all simple, the part that makes this a 3 not a 5 is that there is no digital copy of the pattern. The majority of the pattern is via color map chart. And since the pattern is paper only, you can't easily convert it to a row by row instructions. Thus far I've I had to re-do the paw prints about 5 x bc I mis-count the boxes. I know thats a me thing, but having a digital copy to convert would make this so much more friendly for those of us with astigmatism or bad eyes.

Pity there was enough main colour yarn to finish it

Instructions seem clear. Yarn easy to work with. Will update when I finish this project.

Inspired by the movie, decided to tackle this as my first ever knitting project. It’s a learning curve but the pattern and instructions are east to follow! Highly recommend if your up for a challenge as a fellow first time knitter!

This is going to be a long-term project so it's a little early for me to say what I liked or didn't like. I started making one sleeve and ended up buying a darker gray yarn yarn to swap out for the light gray included in the kit, for the Paw prints. It looked more like a baby blue than gray and really didn't show up well. I like the feel of the yarn and I'm looking forward to making more progress on the sweater now that the darker gray yarn has been delivered to me.

It should be indicated that the yarn isn't wool, but rather acrylic.
