Needlessly convoluted

Once you figure out the overly complicated directions, what you produce is pretty. However, the directions are compressed in order to save space, to the point that a single row can have the symbols ([*# and ** Since I've been crocheting for about 50 years, I was able to figure out most of the cryptic directions--after ripping out my work over and over in some cases. I'm currently stuck and hoping someone answers my separate inquiry soon. After reading of the struggles others have had with the pattern, I'm considering quitting on this. If ever there was a pattern that desperately needed a diagram, it's this one.

Hi Joyce, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty on the Alyssa Throw. Our project assistance team has sent you an email to further break down the pattern for you. If you still need any further assistance please do not hesitate to let us know. We are here to help!

Confusing

I have been crocheting for over 40 years, I have been struggling with this afghan off and on for 6 months and still can't figure it out. Instruction are hard to understand.

Never Again

I have never seen such confusing instructions. I have been working on this pattern for over 2 months and if I ever get it done I will never make another. Please consider better instructions.

Poor instructions

Worse directions ever. As an experienced crocheted I never encountered a patterned so hard to understand.
I never finished it.

Fun project

Enjoying this project. Well written instructions. Would have liked to choose which yarn I used, so 4 instead of 5 stars. Yarn provided was what was expected for the price.

Confusing instructions and poorly written

This is a beautiful pattern but the instructions drove me crazy, Round 1 on page 5 has 8 too many stitches which I fixed by skipping a sc stitch after the each corner dc's. After that fix the mathematics have been correct for me. Knock on wood there are 13 more rounds to the finish. The yarn in this kit easily split.

Very frustrating instructions

Reading others reviews and knowing it wasn't just me having issues with this is such a relief. I have one side of the afghan that is totally wrong due to a miscount. I could NOT figure out why it just wouldn't work properly and now that I see others had the same trouble it makes me feel a bit better. I did the best I could to cover the problems but it still shows. The instructions themselves were horribly confusing. It was such a struggle that I put this down and didn't work on it for almost 3 years. I only just finished it. I wouldn't call myself an expert but I've been making afghans for 25 years and this is the single most confusing one I've ever done.

Nice but not nice

This pattern results in a lovely throw, but be warned, the instructions are among the worst I have ever seen. They are convoluted and confusing, requiring total concentration. Would have preferred more details and fewer odd repeats.

Hard to follow pattern, cheap yarn, color mismatch

I am almost finished with the throw. At some parts the pattern was extremely hard to follow. I have routine in reading patterns but with this I couldn't understand where to make the stitches and how many goes in one place.
The yarn quality is extremely poor. It keeps unwinding and it's too thin for the suggested hook size. And the color is way off. I ordered dark teal and I've got dark denim blue.
Probably this was my first and last order from this site.

BeWaRe!! The pattern is VERY DIFICULT to decipher!!

Buyer Beware!!
I have a Lot of experience and considered this a challenge when I saw the other reviews.
It doesn't matter how closely you read the pattern, there are instructions in this pattern I have never seen before and I will consider myself Happy if I never see them again!
Terribly Frustrating!!!!! =/

Beautiful!

I enjoy a challenge and this was a great test for crocheters everywhere. Directions were sometimes a bit confusing and I found that I had to count all my stitches, but it was all worth the effort. Turned out to be a beautiful afghan. I have it on my sofa in time for the cold winter months. Only took me a couple of weeks to complete even though I had a few row do overs. Lol
Everyone loves the completed product. I have received numerous compliments.

read, read, read

I did not find the same mistakes as other reviewers, however I did find that I really needed to READ the pattern and work it as written, and really pay attention to counting my stitches and spaces as written for it to work out correctly, as expected. Love how this turned out, gets many compliments !!

Great Yarn, Confusing Directions

I love that I was able to pick a different color yarn. (I chose silver). The yarn has a great hand and was a delight to crochet.

The directions for the transition from circle to square were difficult to follow - tough on the first and near impossible on the second circle-to square. I am usually able to figure out directions even when they have mistakes - but the only picture was not helpful. This is a fairly complicated design with lots of symbols and partial repeats.

I also didn't realize it was a rectangular throw. I reworked it to have a square throw.
