Granddaughter loved

My Granddaughter loved this but wished the holes between the stitches were a little smaller so next time I'll do a smaller stitch and add a few to make up for it.

Cute! Easy! I used my own colors but should have gone with sample. My daughter loved the throw, though!

Tangled yarn

I really like this pattern but have been frustrated with the balls of yarn. I just spend 2 hours untangling 2 improperly wound balls. It had both ends coming out from the centre and it became a mess! If not for this I would have given a much better rating.

Mermaid Tail Throw - Adult

I'm finding the colour changing to be challenging. I don't have experience working with more than 2 colours. It would be much simpler as a solid colour throughout. I'm looking forward to having the finished throw.

Excited to gift this.

I got this to make a gift for my best friend for her birthday. I'm almost done. This is my first blanket, and there were some parts that I had to really think about, but I'm done with the throw part and well into the tail. It's taken me almost a month, but that's because I work full time and have a toddler who loves to "help". I'm very pleased with how it is looking and already bragging about it.

Width problems

I am quite a few rows in an loving the way it is turning out. I have measured the width and am 32" wide with my 5.5 mm hook?

Every girl's dream

Very pleased with the results & my daughter absolutely loves it. What little girl never dreamed of being or pretended to be a mermaid?
I made this for my oldest daughter & still have to make one for my younger daughter. I did all extra rows to make theirs longer since the girls are on the tall-side (and still growing). Another change I made was attaching the tail. Instead of sewing the bottom of the body closed, then attaching the tail, I chose to do those together, alternating stitching the tail to the back, then front, then back... all the way across.
BTW - I made 2 of the child's versions for my nieces for their Christmas gifts. Not only did they love them, but Mommy, cousins, aunts and even grandma went ga-ga over them! Every girl's dream. No matter what age!

Careful but not difficult

firstly, I love the Best Value yarn - soft without being fuzzy. I wish it came in more colours. I found the first row tricky, partly because crocheting into a foundation chain is always tricky; but also because working 8 DC's into one stitch stretches that stitch so much that the adjacent ones tighten up until almost invisible. This caused errors in counting the skipped stitches. Once I got the first row complete, I had no problems with the rest - I found the pictures helpful in explaining the hdc in the back of the shell.

Made it for my great granddaughter

Once I figured out the pattern It turned out ok. I had most difficulty with row 3 . It did turn out ok. What I would like to know is on colors not in use how do you carry loosely up the side of work.

Easy and fun to make! Fast!

I've made several of these and love them all! The pattern is easy to follow and quick to finish. My only complaint is that the instructions are in measurements instead of row count. For example, "repeat rows n to n until piece measures 32". I'd prefer to work with row counts so I've translated the instructions to rows on the pattern.

I've made a couple of modifications to the pattern that I like, as follows:

I've adjusted the length for taller people by adding 1 rep for each section which adds 12 rows in total.

Probably the most significant change I made was to use double yarn on the tail. This makes the tail section stiffer so it remains fanned out when the throw is in use.

gift for granddaughter

This mermaid throw was at the request of my granddaughter. The material is quite nice, the price what I expected but following the pattern is awfull. I am an experienced knitter and crochetter. It would be quite helpful to have a larger picture showing what the pattern looks like up close. Then I would know if I am doing it correctly. I had to restart the second row twice and now I am stuck on the third row trying to figure out exactly what I am supposed to be doing. All of the brackets and asterics and brackets within brackets are a pain. I made the big mistake of picking different colors so add that to my confusion and I wish I had never bought this kit. Beautiful results!

My niece asked me for a Mermaid Tail blanket so I bought this kit. She loves shades of Green so I ended up using acrylic, worsted weight yarn from my own stash ratherthan the yarn that came with the kit (Mary Maxim has sold out of the colors she liked when I ordered the kit.) The pattern is easy to read and follow for the most part, but it took me much longer to make than I had anticipated. I put down the project many times to finish other things that seemed to move along faster. Shaping the decreases at the end (just before adding the tail) was a challenge. The tail is beautiful! After adding it to the rest of the folded blanket at the end I was more than pleased with it. I am making another one but plan to make it wider.

Beautiful Pattern

This was a fun project to crochet for my 6 yr. old great niece who loved this pattern. She picked out the 3 colors.and was so excited that she got to "design" it - perfect blue, merlot and silver. It is absolutely beautiful! Used the adult pattern size and just adjusted number of rows so it wouldn't be too long for her. Mary Maxim Best Value yarn is great.
