Crochet-Along Week 7

Crochet-Along Week 7

Kendra Sagash |

Week Seven is here, and when these are completed we are now halfway done with our squares! Next week we will take a break from squares and start putting the edging on our completed squares and also give you a chance to catch up on any you haven't finished before we move on. If you have missed any weeks of the crochet-along, they can be found here. This week we will be using Color 3. If you have any questions about any of the squares or any of the stitches, comment below or feel free to email blog@marymaxim.com. Have fun with your Week Seven squares! Please see week 8 for the edging directions.

Kendra Sagash,

I am struggling with square 25 from Week 7 - My count does not come out correctly on row #3. Any suggestions? Help & thanks!

Judi in Phoenix

Judi Covey,

It was stating that in Week 8 we are starting the edging on completed squares, which will make them easier to assemble.

Heather Mango,

Please remember when submitting questions or concerns, we don’t see them until Monday morning.

Kendra Sagash,

What are the directions for the edging

Mary,

I resolved my problem with square 25, for me it worked with 24 stitches and now it is perfect.

Kendra,

I would like to know how much yarn will we need for the borders when we join the squares so that I can buy the same lot number
Thanks

Pauline,

Never mind, I followed the picture and that has 26 stitches across.

Margaret Jordan,

“Start Putting Edging on our completed squares” , What Edging??

Mary Werner,

Thanks so much for the advice, Kendra, and it is good to know that the gauge is not just something that challenges me alone! This has been fun, so far, thanks for doing it.

Carol,

Hello everyone

I am doing the square 25 and I am having trouble, first of all I always come at 24 st after the first row and then the row 3 does not work for me. Am I the only one having problems with this square. Please helf somebody
Thanks

Pauline,

The gauge is the tricky part for me, on three of these squares I used the G hook to come out with a seven inch square, but on square 22 I am using an I, and even then it is a bit short. Wondering if blocking will be needed for each square before assembly. Do most of you block your projects? Some of mine are perfect as is, but I have some with issues, maybe I could only block those problem ones. No experience blocking, or making an afghan with squares, in the past (many years ago) I only made one piece afghans, or those with full length panels sewn together. Anyway, I might buy some blocking mats and pins.

Carol,

Carol, Yes the gauge was an issue for me too, I did have to change hooks frequently. I am giving my finished blocks a natural ‘tug’ to stretch when I am first checking gauge. With some square I thought that the gauge was right on but then once I was done with the block the bottom seemed to scrunch together, I did pull, tug and block these ones. I knew when I started the square I had the proper gauge. So yes lock the problem ones. The border will help even everything out though, so please don’t be discouraged. Instead of buying blocking mats, try the thick poster board from the dollar store and some T pins. This should cost less than $5 total. Thank you so much for participating with us on this adventure.

Kendra Sagash,

On square 23, I get 26 stitches instead of 24, so what do you think my problem is?

Margaret Jordan,

For some reason, I’m following the pattern for the first square, but it looks nothing like the first square picture! I’m looking at the pattern for the second square, and that one doesn’t seem to jive with its picture, either. Are they just not correct pictures for the patterns?

Pam,

The picture is corrected! So sorry for that!
