Helpful Hints Review by Lynn

I also have been crocheting for 30+ years and found this gorgeous pattern to be quite difficult. However, I do want to give praise where it is due. Thank you, Jill Wright, for sharing your talent of design with the rest of us! God has truly gifted you. It will make an amazing wedding gift for my friends.

I hope you don't mind if I give some suggestions to those who are struggling with this pattern. I have never seen crocheted cable stitches done in double crochet form. I find this pattern works well if you change the Cable stitches to FPTC (front post TRIPLE/TREBLE crochet), but hold TIGHTLY to the loops on your hook so they don't slip and get too large for the single crochet stitches in each row. I, personally, have to reduce my crochet hook sizes to "F" and "H" to make the single crochets work with the cables. Be sure to check your gauge as recommended.

Another hint is to use 2 strands of yarn together to work your lattice stitches around the recommended panels and to connect panels. This makes your afghan feel like it will hold up better and still keeps the beauty of it. You may need to get a little extra yarn to do this.

Another minor change to note would be when you work your lattice round (after the first round of edging) on the panels. You actually need to work 26 single crochets across each end, not 25. Why? Your previous round puts 3 stitches in each corner; this adds 2 extra stitches to the original 24 before reaching your corner on the lattice round.

I hope this helps you all enjoy working this pattern much more! It is truly beautiful. I have only completed 2 panels thus far. It is time consuming, but I know (in the end) it will be worth it. Thanks again, Jill!!

This is a lovely afghan, but, I had some difficulty with some of the stitches- especially the C4L. After much internet searching, I found a description of it that made sense. Making this afghan has really increased my crochet knowledge!

Everyone loves it. Not a fast afghan to do. I have been crocheting for over 30 years, and it took me 500+ hrs. to complete. Enough yarn comes in the kit to finish it easily. May take a little bit for some to figure out what the pattern means, but with the help of You Tube and the internet - no problem. The only problem I had was figuring out the C4L. Once past that everything was fine. Very glad I bought this kit.

I found this a little difficult to start but a beautiful pattern. I thought that the way it was sewed together would not be too serviceable because of the chains to attach it together but beautiful to look at. I also cut it down and made a baby afghan but sewed it together with single crochets instead of loops to make it more useful. I received many compliments. Fun to make.

I bought this about a year ago. I have started it, and after a few false starts it is going well.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! This one is heavy; great for a winter nap. I exhibited it in the Yuma County Fair in 2010 and it won BEST IN SHOW! I made this one for me, but, sadly have had to keep it in a protective bag instead of displaying it my living room as I originally intended because I have pets that tend to get their claws snagged in it. So, my son, who does not have pets, said he would love to have it. It will look nice in his apartment, so now I am happy that it will have a new home where it can be proudly displayed.
